How To Make Your Own Satin Lined Cap

It’s winter which means it’s time to protect your hair from the dryness and breakage the cold can cause. Bring out the Slap Caps!  Slap Caps, or satin lined caps are basically satin lined beanies.  They are all the rage in the natural hair community this time of year. Designed to keep hair moisturized and protected from friction and frizz while you’re on the run. They can even be used for bed time. The problem is, not everyone is willing to pay $30 for one. It is a great investment, but there are definitely cheaper alternatives.

What You Will Need
Winter hat/beanie
Satin bonnet
Hot glue gun

Making a “Slap Cap” on your own is extremely easy. So easy, that it literally takes five minutes at the most.

Step 1. Turn your winter hat inside out. Do the same thing for the bonnet of your choice. I chose my daughter’s Barbie hat and an old bonnet that wasn’t being used.

Step 2. Place your hat inside of the satin bonnet.

Step 3. Hot glue the edges of the hat to the bonnet. Be sure to glue all the way around the edges for extra security.

This is a no-sew diy, but sewing the hat and bonnet together would definitely last a lot longer. It’s the perfect diy for the budget naturalista, and a natural hair must have. For a list of more natural hair must haves, you can click here.

Great tutorial! Could you please recommend a good silk bonnet for me to purchase online? Like the ones in your photos used for daughter’s hat? Thank you❤

OMG!! Thank you for this! I told my little one she couldn’t wear her beanie the other day because the damage it would have done. I’m going to do this now!!

What a timely blog post! You just solved a problem for me. My daughter’s hair tie often falls off as she sleeps. This will work perfectly. We have a glue gun ready to go! Thanks so much for the tip!
