I have another hair diy for you fabulous and frugal babes. Lately, I’ve become obsessed with making all natural hair products from home. While I’m not Madam CJ Walker, I am pretty good at reading and following directions (for the most part). My latest discovery is flaxseed gel. Some of my favorite youtubers swear by this stuff, so I decided to give it a try on my own.
Materials needed:
1/2 cup of whole flax seeds
Strainer
2 cup of water
Container with a tight lid
Spoon
Instructions:
Step 1. Pour 2 cups of water and 1/2 cup of flax seeds into a pot and bring it to a boil.
Step 2. Continue to stir the water and flax seeds until you get a gel like substance. Turn the stove off and continue to stir.
Step 3. Place strainer on top of a container, and pour the mixture in. You can clean and reuse an old product container, if you’d like.
Step 4. Let the mixture cool, close the container with an air-tight lid, and refrigerate. The gel lasts 2 weeks refrigerated. It can last up to 3 weeks, if you add an essential oil to the mixture before refrigerating.
Benefits of homemade flaxseed gel:
1.Cheap to make
2.Leaves hair shiny and moisturized
3.Helps with curl definition
4.Mixes well with other hair products
5.Crunch and flake free
6.Can be used on any hair type
Wash n Go using the homemade flaxseed gel. Check out my instagram @Growinggirlswithcurls for a step by step video tutorial.
I’d love to try this. Thanks!

Thanks for reading Charlene !
Omg yes definitely trying! Looks so easy! Do you know anything for dry dead curls? I’m in desperate need lol
Author
I’m currently dealing with that myself lol. Have you tried protein treatments and heavier hair products?
Wow, that’s so easy! I don’t think I’ve used flaxseed, but I’m very particular about scents, lol. Does this smell like anything?
Author
Nope! It doesn’t have a scent to it at all. You can add certain essential oils to it, if you do want a particular scent.
This is great! I love making my own products, I feel like my inner scientist gets a chance to party. I can’t wait to try it!

I completely understand. I feel like a chef because honestly this is as close to cooking as I’m going to get lmbo!
It is so much better to use natural products on hair. I love DIY’s but have never used a flaxseed gel. will definitely give it a try!

I agree! I’ve been researching more products to make from home.
This might work for my wavy to frizzy hair. Seems so simple too!
Author
It’s possible! My hair has been extremely frizzy lately, and it worked wonders for me.
I just ran out of gel and I am going to try this.
Author
That is exactly why I tried it lol. Let me know how it goes.
I have never ever heard of such an easy product! I have the curliest and frizziest hair ever that often times gets put in a bun and forgotten about. I am going to try this and see if I can manage my curls and let my hair down for a change! Thanks so much!
Author
Funny you said that. After my wash n go, I used this to put my hair in a bun lol. It held my hair down for 4 days with no frizz.
This is so cool! I’ve had curly hair my whole life and I’m always looking for good hair products!

Same! Let me know if you try it!
