Black Owned Hair Care Brands: Part 1

Once upon a time, we only had a few companies to look to for our natural hair needs. As the natural hair movement continued to grow, so did the selection of natural hair products we had to choose from. Fast forward to 2020, a lot of different brands are now catering to black, natural hair. With everything that is going on in this circus that is currently America, it is extremely important to support Black. Black people (BLM), black companies, and black entrepreneurs/influencers alike. Here is a list of black owned companies that every naturalista should know about.

  1. Mielle Organics

Founded by Monique Rodriguez, Mielle Organics is a hair care and beauty brand that believes healthier ingredients encourage healthier hair and skin. All of their products include herbs, amino acids, and minerals that support healthy hair, skin, and nails.

2. Uncle Funky’s Daughter.

Uncle Funky’s mission is to celebrate natural beauty and inspire people of color. All of their products are free of sulfates, phthalates, and synthetic dyes.

3. Curl’s Dynasty

Founded in 2014 by Nickie Nougaisse, Curl’s Dynasty offers a full collection of quality products for women transitioning to natural hair.

4. Taliah Waajid

The Taliah Waajid brand offers 4 different collections of healthy hair products that target natural hair, curly hair, protective styling, and children’s hair care.

5. Oyin Handmade

Family owned and operated, Oyin Handmade products are gentle, cruelty free, and moisture focused.

6. Uniqurl

Uniqurl was developed by registered nurse, Alexis Stanley. With no silicone, drying alcohol, and parabens, Uniqurl products will provde your hair with all the moisture it needs to thrive.

7. Camille Rose

Camille Rose was founded by Janell Stephens in 2011. This brand is made with gourmet food ingredients and offers a variety of products for your hair, skin, and body.

8. Pattern Beauty.

Founded by Tracee Ellis Ross, Pattern Beauty focuses on hair health, and encourages each hair texture to take up as much space as it desires.

9. Treluxe

Cofounded by Cortney and Kiprono Sigilai, Treluxe is formulated with plant based ingredients. Treluxe was designed to help with curl moisture, definition, and hair strengthening.

10. NaturAll Club

NaturAll Club uses nontoxic ingredients to make products that nourish the hair and body. Founded by Muhga Eltigani, NaturAll Club provides the ingredient lists to all products offered so that you know exactly what’s going in your hair.
